Meet the counsellors: Michelle Koroll, Doug Emid, Sherri Hohert,
and Rena Miller

Michelle Koroll, M.A. - For the last 25 years I have gained valuable knowledge about the many challenges facing children, youth and families. I have a particular interest in working with youth which comes from my years as an Outreach Worker and Youth & Family Counselor. My own two children have humbled me greatly while at the same time teaching me how to best support parents and stepparents.

In addition to my practice, I also teach for the School of Child & Youth Care at the University of Victoria. In my spare time I can be found at my local yoga studio or hiking the many trails of Vancouver Island.

Doug Emid, R.C.C - Recovery from trauma and loss is an area of particular interest to me, along with related issues such as anxiety, panic, depression, guilt and prefectionism.

I have nearly 30 years experience in the field of child, family, and individual counselling, working with people from diverse backgrounds, lifestyles and belief systems.

Working in a collegial arrangement with the other members of I.F.C.C. for over 20 years has been a wonderful opportunity to avoid the isolation and potential for stagnation that lone practitioners often face. I believe our mutual exchanges of support promote our client work, with compassion, humour and perspective, keeping our practices vibrant.

Sherri Hohert, M.S.W - During thirty years of working as a social worker for the ministry, as a counselor in the education system and as a trainer/supervisor in a non profit organization, I continue to be amazed at the resiliency of the human spirit.

Several counselling interests include couple and family dynamics, personal transitions, resistance to abuse in all forms and somatic experiencing. I have an understanding of historical perspective and influence the residential school system has had on First Nations People and am interested in being part of the healing process.

Being a mom, a world traveller, a woman with a disability and a person with a thirst for growth and laughter, all influence my practice.
"the reason for living is being fully alive..."

Rena Miller, M.S.W - Since I began my career as a youth worker in the 70’s, my personal and professional journey has taken me along many diverse and intertwining trails. I’ve worked with contemporary families in many forms, both traditional and non-traditional. I am especially interested in acting as a guide and a resource for individuals, couples and families who are facing challenging life transitions.

I balance my counselling practice with teaching in the School of Social Work, University of Victoria. I find that each occupation nurtures and informs the other. I also provide training and consultation for many community social services.

As well, balance is brought into my life by my family, regular yoga practice and wilderness hiking, and travel adventures.
